Student Artist Statement: I sculpted Lady Gaga with clay. First, I made a generic shape of the shoulders and the head. I then worked on the eyes by pressing in the middle of the head to create two small dents for the little balls of clay that resembled the eyes. That was the hardest part of sculpting. Then I made the nose with a small amount of clay and attached it to the face. Then I made the mouth by pushing back clay to made it seem like they are big lips. Then I did the hair using thin, flat pieces of clay. For the bow, I made 4 flat triangles and connected them in the shape of a bow, and I used a narrow strip of clay to hold them together. Overall, I learned that you have to be delicate, but if you mess up, you can just swish it and try it again. I prefer working with clay because it's easy to fix a mistake.
